How can I send a WSU Bulk Email/eblast using a Group ID Account?

Consider using a Group ID Account (e.g. waynelawannouncements@wayne.edu) if you regularly send bulk emails to the same lists.

A Group ID Account gives your office an identity to communicate your message in an official and professional manner. Once set up, these accounts may be authorized to send bulk emails to certain lists at your convenience.

Creating a Group ID Account

  • First, ask around your office or check with the C&IT Help Desk; your department or division may already have a Group ID you may use.
  • To create a new Group ID, fill out the request form on Cherwell.
  • Once created, you need to have your Group ID Account authorized to send to messages to certain lists. Have your dean or vice president send an email to listmaster@wayne.edu specifying to which lists you need access to; do this at least two days before you need to send your email. For security purposes, this email must come directly from the dean or vice president's account.
  • Learn more about these lists and potential audiences on the C&IT Knowledge Base.

Alternative Messaging

Keep in mind that sending bulk emails is not always the best way to get your message out. The more emails we send, the more likely any given email is to be ignored. WSU Marketing and Communications have a number of ways to help you get your message out without spamming students, staff and faculty. Options include digital signage, daily newsletters and channels across WSU's web presence. Contact Carolyn Berry for guidance on how to best deliver your message.

If you choose to send a bulk email, draft the message and obtain the approval of your dean or vice president before sending. Find guidelines for all bulk mail on the C&IT Knowledge Base.

Please contact the C&IT Help Desk for assistance.

NOTE: Use of C&IT's Bulk Email service must comply with WSU's policy on the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources. Your access to the bulk email lists may be withdrawn at any time.
